[Fellowship of the Prop Ring]

There were major surprises at the Lord of the Rings panel on Saturday. The con book gave little description of the event, but it started off with the WETA Works crew giving presentations on the special effects and props from the films. There were several clips of the upcoming The Two Towers film (premiering December 2002); the scenes from the Battle at Helm's Deep were quite impressive. Then, out of nowhere, three more surprises show up... the actors playing three of the hobbits came in unannounced! In the picture from the left are Lawrence Makoare (Lurtz), Billy Boyd (Pippin), Elijah Wood (Frodo), and Dominic Monaghan (Merry). The rest of the gentlemen on the panel are special effects experts from WETA Works.
