[[Fooker continues his narration of his father's life, describing it to Sharon as the two sit on the floor of GPF's server room. We see a young Lionel Barker wearing a headset and looking out the door of a helicopter.]]
Fooker: Although his injuries prevented his immediate return to active combat, Dad continued to travel between the states and Cambodia until the American withdrawal, serving as XO then commander of his company.
[[We see Lionel Barker sitting on a bench in a gym, his face in his hands.]]
Fooker: It was during this time Mom said he really began to change. While he missed much of the war, he was there long enough. The terrible things he saw, plus the souring public sentiment back home, hardened him.
[[We see a very young Jason Barker being sheltered by his mother, while his father walks away in the shadows.]]
Fooker: It's not like he... beat me or mom, but he didn't have to. He grew colder, harsher, and there always seemed to be a cloud of doom around him. He poured himself into his work, leaving us alone for long stretches of time.
[[We see a young Jason Barker watching his mother holding another newborn boy.]]
Fooker: When Justin was born, he was half-way around the world, commanding a company of NATO troops in Europe. He didn't get the news until two months later.
