Ah, yes... my insistence in trying to keep my News posts to Mondays because they're our highest traffic days does seem to backfire on Labor Day, when the vast majority of our US readers are probably out doing much more important things like having fun and eating hamburgers, hot dogs, and steaks. So both of you visiting today can get the News when it's fresh, while the rest can catch up later in the week. Don't worry, this should be relatively short.

Extra content updates fixed in RSS feeds... I hope: I've received a few complaints over the past few months that the "extra" non-comic content on Wednesdays and Fridays haven't been showing up in the RSS feeds. (Here is the main feed; PREMIUM folks can go to the High-Def main page to get the PREMIUM-exclusive feed.) This has led to those of you depending on the feeds to know when I update missing the extra content. Well, I think I have this fixed. The problem was convincing news readers that updated feed items that all point to the same URL are indeed updates. It seems just updating the published date isn't enough; you have to give each published item a globally unique ID or it won't recognize it. So far, the updated feeds seem to work in my two main feed readers, Thunderbird and Google Reader, but please let me know if they don't work for you. It's nearly impossible to test in every possible news reader, so your feedback is appreciated. That said, you can test this fix with....

New Miscellaneous Fridays content: This Friday, I'm giving you a special treat. For our Miscellaneous Fridays update the next couple months, we'll be running the seven-page bonus story from the first GPF book. This will be the first time this story has been published online, and it will only be available to everyone for the weekend that each page runs. Therefore, if you don't already own a copy of the book, you'll have to catch every Friday update in September and October to get it all. However, if you do own a copy of the book, you can now read the story online in its entirety by visiting the book subsite linked to above and clicking the link to read the bonus story. Note that you'll need to have your copy of the book handy to initially get it, but you can create an authentication cookie in your browser that will let you get in again later without the book.

That's all the news for now. I'm hoping to have a lot more to share in the near future, but that will have to wait for now.
