The Dragon*Con 2003 Report

Update January 1, 2004: Okay, if you haven't figured it out by now, I haven't done and probably won't finish the official con report for D*C 2003. Sorry about that. With work and medical woes throughout 2003, it just got lost in the cracks. Of course, the pictures are online and they tell most of the story anyway, so please enjoy those.

Con Pictures Now Online! Fri | Sat | Sun

Dragon*Con is America's largest science fiction, fantasy, and popular arts convention. Split between the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotels in Atlanta, GA, USA, the con will take place over Labor Day weekend, August 29 through September 1, 2003. We had an awesome time at D*C back in 2000 and again last year, and after missing this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, we couldn't wait to get back into the excitement of con life. So look out, Atlanta, we're coming back!

News and Events:

  • Bill Holbrook and I will both be on a webcomics panel Sunday, August 31, at 7PM in the Madrid/Trinidad rooms in the Marriott hotel. (Previously, I said this was in the Hyatt, but we've since learned otherwise.) Madrid/Trinidad is on the lobby level, near the escalators down to the dealers' room and Artists' Alley.
  • The Faultie get-together meal has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday night after the panel (about 8:30 or 9) at "the TexMex restaurant across from the hotel." The easiest way to find the place will be to just go to the panel, and we'll all walk over there together. We're still looking for input from folks on the Dragon*Con 2003 discussion thread, so make sure to swing by there and give us your thoughts.
  • The official Dragon*Con 2003 Schedule is finally online. Start picking out your favorite panels, folks! But don't forget our panel Sunday at 7PM!
  • [Gamester and Mischief]
  • Bill and I will be selling merchandise associated with both our strips, including our Plan Nine books and other knick knacks we might bring. In addition, everyone who purchases anything from us will be entered into a small raffle, where we will give away two pieces of original art, one from each of us. My entry is visible to the right: a gray Prismacolor marker drawing of Gamester and Mischief on 9" by 12" Bristol board. (Click the image for a higher resolution version.) Bill will be giving away a matted Kevin & Kell picture. The drawing for the raffle will be held at the end of the webcomics panel on Sunday (see below).
  • The current plan is that we'll arrive some time Friday morning and leave some time Monday. That means we'll be there for the big two days of Saturday and Sunday, and hopefully for a good part of Friday as well. As the official con schedule hasn't been released yet, we don't know what else will be going on, but rest assured that we'll do our best to keep everyone informed.
  • This year is going to be a little different, as we won't have our friends at Plan Nine Publishing to help us out. Instead, they will be on their way to Mephit Furmeet in Memphis, TN. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a table of my own in Artists' Row, so I'll be sharing one with our pal Bill Holbrook (Kevin & Kell). This will probably be the default location to find me, when I won't attending panels.
  • Make sure to keep checking back here and on the official Dragon*Con 2003 discussion thread on the forums for updates.

Merchandise:

Below is a list of what we plan to have for sale:

  • The first two GPF books ($13). Sorry, but Book #4 will not be out in time for the con, and currently Book #3 and the BOfH book I illustrated are both out of stock. We're hoping to have the Book #3 and BOfH reprints by next week, though, so check back again to make sure.
  • L33T: Comics for Gamers #4, the Keenspot comic I did with Fooker on the cover. ($3).
  • The infamous gray Fred "Get Cultured" T-shirts from our first Dragon*Con trip. We only have a limited few left, and only in sizes medium, large, and extra large ($15).
  • Book cover magnets, similar to the freebies we gave away last year. Each magnet features the cover of one of our books, including the yet to be announced fourth cover. The magnets will be sold individually ($1) or in a set of four ($3).
  • Sketches will cost $10. Yes, we used to do them for free in the past, but now that I'm unemployed, I need something to pay for the valet parking at the hotel. Sorry, but them's the breaks.
  • Any other piece of junk I can sell that you people will buy. I'm sure I'll have lots of pocket lint....
