Character Description

During To Thine Own Self..., Trudy's counterpart from the "Negaverse" recounted the tale of how Nick Wellington transformed from humble programmer to megalomaniacal despot. In that universe, Dwayne Duncan also founded and ran GPF Software, but instead of an idealistic and optimistic businessman with deep concern for his staff, he turned out to be "a corrupt businessman who used his small software company to swindle clients with unnecessary fees and hidden costs." When Nick orchestrated his global conquest, Dwayne was rewarded for his assistance in the endeavor by being made governor of the imperial province of Asia. Duncan remained loyal to the Emperor throughout his reign, even in the face of growing rebel resistance.

During the story's climax, Duncan was present when Nick's rescue party was captured and brought to the Emperor's throne room. After the ensuing firefight and the defeat of the Emperor's guards, the Emperor revealed that he suspected that Duncan was a spy for the invading alien armada, citing that "the real Duncan was never so blatant a sycophant." Dropping all pretense, Duncan surprised everyone by revealing that he was indeed taken over by the mysterious invaders during a recent "diplomatic mission" to South Africa and had been waiting patiently to signal the invasion fleet ever since his return. He explained the invaders' ultimate plan of playing both sides—the Empire and the rebels—against each other in order to destabilize Earth's sociopolitical climate and make it easier to conquer. When the Governor called for the humans to surrender peacefully, Fooker reminded him of one minor technical detail: "We've still got guns." Fooker and Justin shot Duncan and Butch Kilgore, killing them and forcing their alien controls to flee.

Relationships

Unknown; it would be safe to assume that since Dwayne and Nicole were married long before the first events chronicled in the comic, and that many of the events in the "negaverse" before the February 11, 2006 strip seem to parallel the events in the GPF universe, that Governor Duncan was indeed married to Nicole at some point. Whether or not he remained married to her is unknown, as the "alternate" Nicole is never mentioned during To Thine Own Self.... Also suspiciously absent from that story is the "negaverse" counterpart of Sydney, their daughter, making her existence uncertain as well.
